Your Guide to Getting a Canadian Passport
A Canadian passport is your key to international travel, and this playbook outlines the steps to get yours. ✈️
Before You Apply
To get a Canadian passport, you first need to be a Canadian citizen. This is the most important requirement.
You will also need to gather a few key items before you can complete your application:
- Proof of citizenship: This is usually your citizenship certificate or a Canadian birth certificate.
- Identification: One piece of government-issued photo ID.
- Two references: People who have known you for at least two years. They cannot be family members.
- A guarantor: A Canadian adult with a valid passport who has known you for at least two years and can confirm your identity.
- Two identical passport photos: These photos have very specific rules for size and style. 📸
